During 2003 and 2004, the Studio recorded tracks for a really exciting new project called Bata Mbira. It is a conglomeration of traditional African Mbira music combined with the percussive styles of Cuba, Brazil and Africa. Master percussionist Michael Spiro and Mbira Artist/Singer Mike Williams and recorded tracks that formed the foundation of the project during three different sessions spaced several months apart. This was necessary because Spiro lives in San Francisco and many of the participants have hectic schedules. Spiro enlisted several fantastic singers and a killer wooden Flute artist named Sylvain Leroux. Also featured is Singer/Percussionist Jesus Diaz. The release date is pending.
Here are some audio clips and pictures from the session.
